A drainage hole near this reservoir prevents your plants from oversaturating. For optimum results, place a lightweight filler above the water reservoir in the base of the planter, and then use a potting mix to fill the rest of the cavity. This will allow plants to obtain water when they need it and it will keep the planter light, for easy moving. It will also reduce the amount of potting soil you will need to use.
