The post is hollow and square; it goes easily into the ground and remains there firmly. You can put the mailbox at the right height when mounted. The design of using bolts to attach post and mailbox prevents anyone to unbolt the mailbox and walk off with it. It allows access to only one end and hence the bolt would spin rather than unthread.
