Garden Decor

You would not stop decorating your house at floors, walls and furniture, would you? You shouldn’t stop with trees, plants and grass in your garden either. Adding whimsical personal touches to your outdoor space will create a stylish and welcoming place to enjoy the outdoor world. There are no firm rules about what you can and cannot do with decorative objects in the garden. As a matter of fact, outdoor space is an area where rules are made to be broken. Use your imagination and reuse objects from your own attic, tag sales and antique stores to make your garden décor look as if it has always been there.

Here are some creative ideas to get you started:

  1. Add an arbor or a gate to the entrance or exit of the garden to announce that you have arrived in a special place or maybe just left one.
  2. Place decorative items like sundials, statues or garden plaques where paths naturally come together to create a focal point.
  3. Locate a bench or swing in a shady area that affords a pleasing view of the garden to encourage quiet reflection.
  4. Hang a spinner or some other shiny object from a tree or post  where it can catch sunlight and reflect it back into the garden.
  5. Incorporate a water feature or a set of wind chimes into the garden to create soothing sounds outdoors.
  6. For a little company, add a garden gnome near your favorite resting spot so you will always have someone to talk to or maybe just to listen, whatever the case may be.
  7. Add unique decorative containers filled with plants that you would not be able to grow otherwise due to unfavorable soil conditions.

There is no limit to the number of possible ways you can interject your personality into the garden by adding decorative items. They also make great conversation pieces; you will find that every unique thing in your garden has a story to tell. Finally, when the holidays are approaching, decorative items for the garden also make great gifts!
