Slate is a natural metamorphic rock formed 500 million years ago. The Stone Mill slates are newly quarried in the United States and hand cut to size at the Stone Mill factory in Connecticut. Due to slate being a natural product of the earth, there are features and color variations inherent in the rock. These variations enhance the natural beauty and unique character of each slate piece. Each plaque is highlighted with durable enamels intended to last as long as the slate plaque itself.
